Poland Threatens to Ground Putin’s Plane Ahead of Potential Trump Summit in Hungary
European leaders push for Zelenskyy’s inclusion as Kremlin calls reports “speculative”

Budapest, Hungary – Speculation is mounting over a possible meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and former U.S. President Donald Trump in Budapest. Reports indicate that several European leaders are seeking to attend the summit, aiming to lobby for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s participation in negotiations over the ongoing Ukrainian conflict.
European officials fear that Trump could side with Moscow and pressure Kyiv into territorial concessions.
However, the Kremlin has emphasized that no date has been confirmed for the meeting. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov dismissed reports suggesting Putin could travel on the same plane as Trump as “fantastical speculation”and said that details about EU participation have not yet been discussed. Peskov also accused European countries of encouraging Kyiv to continue the war.
Poland has now entered the spotlight, threatening to ground Putin’s plane if it attempts to cross Polish airspace en route to Hungary. Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski warned:
“I cannot guarantee that an independent Polish court won't order the government to escort such an aircraft down to hand the suspect to the court in The Hague.”
At present, neither Putin nor Trump has confirmed the summit, leaving Budapest as a potential stage for high-stakes East–West diplomacy, while tensions rise across Europe.
